Gir cows are traditionally used in Ayurveda for A2 milk suitable for ghee preparation. A2 refers to the type of beta-casein protein found in the milk of certain cattle breeds, including Gir cows. In classical Ayurvedic texts, ghee is described as a yogavahi — a carrier that helps herbs move through the body. This is a traditional textual description, not a claim that A2 ghee is clinically proven to be superior to other ghee; Herbal Hills does not make medical superiority claims about A2 ghee.

How Our A2 Cow Farm Supports Medicated Ghee Manufacturing

Medicated ghee, or ghrita, is one of the classical dosage forms of Ayurveda. Its quality depends a great deal on the ghee base. That is why Herbal Hills runs its own A2 cow farm instead of buying ghee on the open market for these formulations.

Owning the A2 cow farm gives us direct oversight of the first step in the chain: the milk. That oversight carries through to our GMP-certified manufacturing units, where the ghee base is combined with herbs according to classical texts under expert supervision.

From A2 Cow Farm Milk to Ghee Base

Milk from our Gir cows is the starting point for the A2 ghee base. Because the farm is ours, the ghee base for these products is not sourced externally. This is a key point for brands that want to tell a clear sourcing story on their packs and websites.

The ghee base then enters our standard quality system. It is tested in our in-house lab for purity, potency and safety, and advanced tests can be done through NABL-accredited labs where needed. Each finished batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis.
